Product Characteristics of Xylitol and Production Challenges
Xylitol is a natural sweetener widely used in food, pharmaceutical, and oral care industries. However, xylitol has significant hygroscopicity. At 23°C and 86% relative humidity, its moisture absorption can reach 7.64%. Combined with its low melting point (typically 92–96°C) and strong heat sensitivity, xylitol is extremely sensitive to environmental temperature and humidity during production, packaging, and storage.
Excess humidity can cause a series of problems: finished product caking due to moisture absorption, sticking of crystal surfaces to equipment leading to frequent shutdowns for cleaning, changes in crystal form affecting quality, and in severe cases, entire batches being discarded, causing economic losses. Research data shows that xylitol crystals have high density and hardness, and poor compressibility. If moisture absorption reduces flowability, it also increases difficulties in subsequent processes such as tableting. Therefore, stable and efficient environmental humidity control throughout the entire xylitol production process is urgently needed.

Working Principle of Desiccant Dehumidifier
A desiccant dehumidifier is an air dehumidification device based on the principle of **physical adsorption**. Its core component is a honeycomb rotor impregnated with a high-performance desiccant (such as silica gel or molecular sieve). During operation, the rotor rotates slowly and continuously (typically 8–10 revolutions per hour), divided into a process zone (about 3/4 of the area) and a regeneration zone (about 1/4 of the area).
**During the dehumidification process**, humid air flows through the process zone, where water molecules are physically adsorbed by the desiccant, and the dry air is delivered to the workshop. Meanwhile, in the regeneration zone, high-temperature air (typically 100–140°C) blows in the opposite direction, desorbing the adsorbed moisture and exhausting it outdoors, thus restoring the rotor’s adsorption capacity. This cycle repeats continuously, achieving **continuous, stable, large-volume dehumidification**. A major advantage of this technology is that dehumidification performance does not depend on temperature; it operates efficiently across a wide temperature range from -20°C to 40°C, making it especially suitable for low-temperature environments.
